WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS INFORMATION ABOUT CHILD SEX SLAVERY THAT IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR SMALL CHILDREN
This May and June I'm going to be participating in Tread on Trafficking by Love146 and I sincerely hope that you'll join me by donating and praying for me or participating yourself. Please allow me to convince you how much you are needed.
As a pediatric nurse I get to see how incredibly resilient children can be. As anyone who has known me for more than 5 minutes knows, I love kids. I could hang out with them all day (and do!) I love the joy they have in life and figuring the world out. They are full of energy and excitement and love. They are amazed by everything (why is the sky blue, where did you learn how to cut triangles??) The thought that anyone would willingly hurt a child is unbearable to me. However, every minute 2 children are sold. How many children have been sold since you started reading this post? However, there is hope for these children.
Love 146 started as a response to each child in that statistic. Their name actually comes from a girl they saw while undercover at a brothel in Southeast Asia. The number pinned to her dress was #146. During a raid of the brothel a while later she could not be found. Read the full story.
Her story, though we do not know much of it, is all too common in that part of the world. Young girls (and boys) are tricked, coerced, sold by or kidnapped from their families and brought to brothels where they become little more than a number pinned to a dress behind glass or on a menu to be picked, paid for, & raped. They are robbed of their childhood and their hope.
Love146 works in Southeast Asia offering prevention, aftercare, and research into child sex slavery. They operate a home for children rescued from slavery to provide them with holistic care so they can reintegrate into their communities and families. They partner with other organizations for prevention in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. (yes there is trafficking here too). For more info on Love146 and it's goals/programs please check out their website.
Tread on Trafficking is for the months of May and June. My plan is to bike to work twice a week (6 miles round trip) and go to the gym twice a week and do 3 miles on the elliptical for a grand total of 18 miles/week or 72 miles total. Can you give 25 cents a mile? 50 cents? $1? Make a difference today.
I'll be keeping track of my progress here so please continue to check back =)
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
